Museum Mondays are full of creative dinosaur-related activities perfect for a night out with the family.
February 6: Love Struck RaptorIt’s the month of love and Cupid has never been busier shooting love arrows. When he stopped by the Museum to shoot a few Dinosaurs he made a mistake and hit cranky Utah Raptor with one of his largest arrows. On this silly Valentines hunt “Kisses or Misses” see if you can find which dinosaurs were smooched by our Love Struck Raptor. Make a Valentine for your special Valentine and play “Dinos on a Date”! |
February 13: Cupids Valentine Mask-querade!
Cupid has tried everything he can think of to get the dinosaurs to be friends for Valentines Day, but for some reason he can’t get the plant eaters and the meat eaters to get along. This year Cupid is hosting a Mask-querade party at the museum for you and our dinosaurs! All of the dinosaurs will be in Masks, disguising who they are so meat eaters and plant eaters will be tricked into becoming friends at the party. Make your own mask and then join the dinosaurs in the exhibits for the Mask-querade party and see if Cupids plan worked! Mask-querade activities include: Mask making, Mask-querade hunt and best mask voting for our Dinos masks, Cupids Bow Shoot, All You Need is Love… BUGS!, and Whose Eyes are Those? This will be a Valentine party your little ones won’t want to miss!
February 20: Becoming a Fossil Finder!
Paleontology? Long word, boring job? Not so! Join us for a night that will open your eyes to the exciting world of dinosaurs, fossils, and paleontology. Learn about what a paleontologist does during the year, their tools, and some tricks of the trade. Find the best places to find fossils on your own. See for yourself how puzzling paleontology can be by stopping at our Paleontology is Puzzling exhibit , make a paleontology puzzle of your own to take home, dig for dinosaur fossils of many kinds, and see if you can spot the “Fakes and Mistakes” when they are next to real fossils.
February 27: In Love with Paris
13 of our smallest dinosaurs, the Compies, known as Compsognathus are from France and have always been in love with Paris. They’ve brought their favorite parts of Paris to the Museum to teach their dinosaur friends and you, all about Parisian culture and some of the most famous places in Paris. Join us for this Museum Monday to see the Compies favorite things about France. Find out how the Eiffel Tower was built and try your luck at the Eiffel Tower Toss, find out what could be hiding in the Notre Dame Cathedral Bell Tower, learn a new thing or two about our little French Compies, and make sure to stop by the Paris sweet shop for a special treat!
March 5: Luck of the Irish
With your Irish passport in hand ready to be filled with stamps, explore the Museum Exhibits to experience a few of the Wonders of Ireland. Learn about Irish culture, visit the Cliffs of Moher, make a boat to sail on the River Shannon and finally, pull up a seat to make and take a sun catcher of your own to remind you of Irish rainbows.
March 12: Shamrock Shin Dig
Three sneaky leprechauns have quickly and quietly made their way through the Museum and in typical leprechaun fashion have left a trail of tricks and jokes behind them. Instead of being upset like the little leprechauns hoped, our Dinos laughed to each other and turned their misfortune into a party. Join our dinosaurs at the Shamrock Shin Dig to see the tricks, pranks, and jokes that were played on them. Play Shamrock Stomp, help Seamus the Leprechaun find his missing four leaf in Short a Shamrock, and make your own Lucky Leprechaun headband to wear this St Patty’s Day!
March 19: Rainy Showers to Spring Flowers
Winter is slowing turning to spring. Visit the Museum to see the meltdown in action! Stop by the mini icy igloo to make one of your own. Then, explore the exhibits with a careful eye and see if you can spot the Signs of Spring and find each of our Dino babies. Learn how caterpillars turn into gorgeous butterflies and make one to remind you that spring is on its way.
March 26: Chic a Dee and Daring Ducklings
Six baby chicks followed Mamma Chick into the Museum but when she came out none were following her. See if you can find the missing chicks and what distracted them before they get into trouble! Play Quack Attack, and Just Ducky, and create a Daring Duck of your own.
